The BirdBrain Hummingbird Classroom Solution (w/ micro:bits) transforms educational environments into centers of creativity and technological exploration. Designed for students in grades 4-12, this comprehensive package facilitates the teaching of robotics, engineering, and coding to groups of 20-30 students. The solution includes modular kits that allow students to construct robots and animatronics, fostering hands-on learning and innovation.
Students work in pairs to build robots using the provided project packs, which offer a structured curriculum of 15 classroom sessions. These sessions are designed to integrate seamlessly with existing lessons, allowing educators to enhance their teaching with robotics kits and various craft materials. The versatility of the kit enables students to animate literary works, model biological systems, or create autonomous machines, limited only by their imagination.

The classroom solution is equipped with storage solutions to keep materials organized and accessible, ensuring that projects can be stored and transported efficiently. The inclusion of rechargeable power banks and USB charging hubs ensures that all components remain powered and ready for use, eliminating the need for disposable batteries.
The Hummingbird Classroom Solution is compatible with a wide range of programming environments, including block-based and text-based languages such as MakeCode, Python, and Java. This compatibility ensures that students can engage with the technology using various devices, including laptops and tablets. The kits feature electrically protected connectors, allowing students to safely incorporate multiple motors, sensors, and LEDs into their projects.

Developed with support from the National Science Foundation and validated through research at Carnegie Mellon University, the Hummingbird kits are accompanied by free, classroom-tested learning materials. These resources include programming tutorials, lesson plans, and printable activities, all designed to align with educational standards. Additionally, educators have access to free online professional development to aid in curriculum integration.
Note: The Hummingbird Kits require micro:bits to function.
