The Aerial Robotic Oil Spill Surveillance (AROSS) system is an Autonomous Programmed Quadcopter that provides constant surveillance for Land Crude Oil Pipeline (Buried and/or Surface).
It is the first Quadcopter in the Oil and Gas Industry Dedicated to Pipeline Surveillance for Land Crude Oil Pipelines,
The Chassis of the AROSS System is made from Carbon Fiber, and is extremely durable and light weight.
Obstacle Detection and Avoidance by the System During Patrol is done using HC-SRO4 Ultrasound Sensors at a distance of 35 cm from the AROSS System.
Gas Sensors Integrated into the AROSS System detect crude oil spills as small as 0.2 L (Litres) within four (4) minutes of their onset. After Spill Detection, Spill GPS Location, Estimated Crude Oil Volume Spill, and Spill Images are Transmitted by the AROSS System to Monitoring Stations via Company Emails. Images with a resolution size of 320 X 240 pixels are captured by the AROSS System at a serial baud rate of 38,400 bps.
Multiple AROSS Systems provide 24-hour Spill Surveillance Network for Oil and Gas Pipelines greater than 100 m.
