The machine is equipped with factory-installed stepper motor mounts, replacing traditional handwheels, and is prepared for the integration of stepper motors and computer numeric controls. It is important to note that CNC-ready machines require the installation of stepper motors before they can be operational. The inclusion of handwheels allows for manual control once dual-shaft stepper motors are installed. Sherline provides high-quality stepper motors and CNC options, and there are several aftermarket suppliers available for motors, drivers, and software to complete the CNC system.
The mill features a robust 90V DC motor with an electronic speed controller, providing a spindle speed range from 70 to 2800 RPM. The machine's base measures 10 inches, and it includes a table with dimensions of 2.75 inches by 13.0 inches, featuring two T-slots for versatile workpiece positioning. Additional features include oil reservoirs on the X/Y axes and the Z axis to maintain lubrication of critical components, and a brass leadscrew cover to protect against debris. The machine's design also allows for various movements, including headstock and column rotations, pivoting, and swinging, enhancing its adaptability for complex machining tasks.
Note: CNC-ready machines cannot be operated manually unless double-shaft stepper motors are installed.
