The Sherline 3-Axis Lathe DRO w/ CNC Thrust Collars (") is an advanced digital readout system designed to enhance the functionality of a lathe equipped with a vertical milling column. This system provides a comprehensive 3-axis digital readout, akin to that found on a milling machine, and includes CNC thrust collars to facilitate its use on a 3-axis lathe with stepper motors installed. The digital readout system operates by measuring the rotation of the handwheels and translating this into electronic signals that correspond to table movement. This feature is particularly beneficial for CNC users who wish to verify the accuracy of the CNC input by cross-referencing it with the leadscrew movement.
The system is designed to be cost-effective, allowing owners of both a lathe and a mill to utilize a single electronic display box for both machines. This is achieved by enabling the input cables from the lathe to be unplugged and the readout box to be transferred between the lathe and the mill. The system is compatible with both leadscrew and ball screw machines and offers selectable inch/metric options to match the machine's leadscrew pitch. It also features six different modes to accommodate various machine types and display preferences.
The power supply is versatile, automatically switching between 120V and 240V, ensuring compatibility with different power sources. However, it is important to note that the system is designed for manual use and is not suitable for CNC machines operating at speeds exceeding 15 inches per minute.
Note: Ensure that handwheels are removed before installing CNC stepper motor mounts.
