The Sherline Lever Collet Closer Instructions provide a time-saving solution for those engaged in repetitive lathe operations on small parts. This accessory eliminates the need to repeatedly loosen and tighten the drawbar when inserting parts into a WW collet. Once the initial adjustment is made, the collet can be released and re-tightened by simply moving a lever back and forth. The lever's movement to the right releases the part, allowing for the insertion of a new piece, and moving it back to the left secures the part in place. The use of hardened steel components ensures durability and longevity.
This tool is capable of holding long stock up to 3/16 inches in diameter through the WW collets and spindle. For larger parts, up to 5/16 inches or 8 mm, they can be accommodated in the face of the collet. Additionally, collet pot chucks are available for handling even larger parts up to 1 inch in diameter. The installation process is straightforward, requiring only the tapping of one existing 4-40 hole in the spindle if it is not already tapped, with a self-tapping screw included for this purpose.
The product is constructed from a combination of A2 hardened steel, 1018 steel, brass, and 12L14 steel, ensuring robust performance. It includes a 3/8-inch knockout bar and a special #1 Morse to WW collet adapter, which features a pin to engage the keyway in the collet to prevent rotation. The instructions provided are comprehensive and illustrated, covering both installation and operation.
Note: The Lever Collet Closer is designed for use with the standard pulley set, which has a maximum RPM of 2,800. It is compatible with the 10,000 RPM pulley set, but this may result in faster wear and increased vibration in the yoke.
