The 5000-series tabletop mills represent Sherline's most economical milling machines, serving as an excellent starting point for any miniature machine shop. These mills are characterized by a robust 10-inch aluminum base, precision-machined dovetailed slides with adjustable gibs, and permanently lubricated spindle bearings. The inclusion of adjustable preload anti-backlash feed screws on the X- and Y-axes, along with laser-engraved aluminum handwheels, ensures precision and ease of use. Despite their compact size, these machines are capable of producing high-quality precision parts, cutting materials such as wood, plastic, aluminum, and steel with accuracy.

The standard equipment for this mill includes a powerful 90V DC motor with an electronic speed controller, a 10-inch base, and a table with two T-slots.
