The Sherline Single-Axis Machine Slide w/ Dovetailed Headstock & Motor (EU) is a precision-engineered tool designed for meticulous machining tasks. It features a robust steel bed with ground dovetails, ensuring stability and precision. The leadscrew, crafted from precision-rolled steel, is strategically positioned beneath the table to avoid interference from chips, and its backlash is adjustable for enhanced accuracy. The industrial handwheel is marked in fine increments, allowing for precise control during operations.
Mounting the machine slide is versatile, with provisions for both bottom and top mounting. The base includes two holes for bottom mounting, while top mounting is facilitated by four angle clamps that secure the slide firmly in place. The headstock, constructed from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum with a black anodized finish, offers a choice of spindles, including a 3/4-16 #1M taper or an ER-16, providing flexibility for various machining needs.
The machine is powered by a 90-volt DC motor, renowned for delivering maximum torque at low RPMs, which is crucial for effective machining. This motor operates more smoothly and quietly compared to traditional AC/DC motors. It features a two-step V-belt pulley system, allowing for adjustments between high-speed, low-torque and low-speed, high-torque settings. The electronic speed control is variable, ranging from 70 to 2800 RPM, and includes a load compensating circuit to maintain consistent RPMs. The motor is compatible with a wide range of power inputs, automatically converting them to the required output.
Note: The spindle is designed for light-duty applications and should not be used for rotating long or out-of-round parts at high RPMs. It is not fully sealed, so exposure to dust or coolant can reduce bearing life.
