The Sherline Single-Axis Slide w/ Programmable CNC Controller 8" (Metric) is an advanced tool designed to enhance precision in machining tasks. This device integrates a single-axis controller that operates the stepper motor on a lathe or mill without the need for separate computers or drivers. The built-in computer chip within the keypad/control unit allows users to directly drive the stepper motor or input simple program commands for sequenced operations, eliminating the necessity for G-code knowledge. Users can input parameters such as direction, travel distance, feed rate, and program pauses, with the capability to store up to 40 programmed steps across two user-settable programs. The controllers can be interconnected to signal sequential actions or communicate with other CNC system controllers for synchronized operations.
The stepper motor is equipped with dual ball bearings and a preload nut to eliminate endplay, ensuring smooth and accurate movement. A dampened coupling connects the motor's shaft to the leadscrew, and the dual-shaft design allows for manual operation via a handwheel, providing an alternative to computer-controlled movement. The controller employs micro-stepping technology to ensure precise and smooth travel.
Mounting the slide is versatile, with provisions for both bottom and top mounting. The base features four holes for bottom mounting, while angle clamps are provided for top mounting, ensuring a secure installation. The package includes a linear controller with a keypad, a power supply, a #23 frame size stepper motor, a handwheel graduated in .01 mm increments, cables, and complete instructions.
Note: The power supply is designed for 115/120 VAC, 60 Hz current. A transformer is required for countries with different voltage and frequency standards. Additionally, do not use WD-40 as a lubricant on these slides, as it will remove the anodized coating.
