The SparkFun Photoacoustic Spectroscopy CO2 Sensor - PASCO2V01 (Qwiic) incorporates the XENSIV? PAS CO2 sensor package from Infineon?, designed to deliver precise CO2 measurements in parts-per-million (ppm) format. Utilizing a photoacoustic spectroscopy measurement system, it combines narrow-band filtered infrared light with a sensitive microphone within the sensing cavity to accurately detect CO2 concentrations ranging from 0 to 32,000ppm. The sensor achieves optimal accuracy of (30ppm + 3%) when readings are between 400ppm and 5,000ppm.

This sensor features an integrated microcontroller that facilitates direct ppm readouts through three communication interfaces: I2C, UART, and PWM. The device requires a 12V supply for the infrared emitter, with an AP3012 boost regulator included to convert 3.3V from a Qwiic connection to a clean 12V output. The compact board, measuring 1 inch by 1.6 inches, routes the I2C bus to dual Qwiic connectors and provides access to all sensor pins via 0.1-inch spaced headers.

The interrupt pin offers unique functionalities, including alarm thresholds, data readiness, and sensor busy statuses, and can be configured for early measurement start notifications. A week-long calibration period is necessary, with measurements taken every 10 seconds and requiring at least 30 minutes of outdoor exposure.
