The Wio Tracker LPWAN Asset Tracker Development Kit for Amazon Sidewalk (USA) is an open-source platform designed to facilitate both indoor and outdoor tracking, as well as environmental monitoring. This versatile development kit is powered by the LR1110 and nRF52840 chips and is fully compatible with Grove sensors. It utilizes the Wio-WM1110 Wireless Module for its core operations, which includes the acquisition of location data through passive WiFi scanning or GNSS. Communication with the Amazon Sidewalk network bridges is achieved via BLE and/or LoRa radios.

Amazon Sidewalk is a secure, long-range network that enables a multitude of devices to maintain consistent connectivity. It operates by anonymously linking smart devices to form a robust, shared community network, which can be leveraged to develop more cost-efficient connected solutions.

The development kit features a Multi-Purpose Radio Front-End that is specifically tailored for geolocation purposes. It boasts a GNSS for precise outdoor positioning, alongside Wi-Fi Sniffer and Bluetooth scanning capabilities for indoor positioning. This seamless transition between indoor and outdoor tracking eliminates the need for separate trackers, offering comprehensive location tracking while simplifying the overall design and reducing costs.

The kit is further enhanced with an onboard temperature and humidity sensor (SHT41), a 3-axis accelerometer (LIS3DHTR), and a variety of peripheral interfaces. It supports ADC/UART and IIC transmission protocols and can be connected to over 300 Grove modules, facilitating the easy expansion of the kit into more sophisticated solutions.

The development kit can be integrated with AWS IoT Core to connect to the expansive Amazon Sidewalk network, providing users with a wide range of possibilities for asset-tracking solutions. At the AWS re: Invent 2023 event, the AWS IoT team hosted the IOT303 Asset Tracking Workshop, where a significant number of developers engaged in building their first asset-tracking solutions using this development kit in conjunction with the Amazon Sidewalk network, AWS IoT Core, and Amazon Location Service.
